Competition season is quickly approaching! The girls have been working hard on their skills throughout the Spring and Summer and now it's time to form teams and start playing games! There will be competition teams at the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. 3rd graders are encouraged to try out for the 4th grade team. Based on current counts, there will likely be spots available for 3rd graders on the 4th grade team this year. If there are enough qualified girls at a grade level, we will consider having 2 teams at a grade level.
Tryouts are on Thursday, September 5th at Newport High School (4333 Factoria Blvd SE, Bellevue, WA 98006).
We will have 2 separate sessions:
Please email newportgirlsselectbasketball@gmail.com if you would like more information.
If your daughter can't make the tryout, please let us know ASAP so we can discuss another arrangement to have her evaluated.
Newport Girls Select Basketball provides a competitive basketball program for 2nd - 8th graders. We build player skills and confidence to prepare them to play high school basketball. Newport Select is a "feeder" program, meaning it is formed by players that will eventually attend Newport High School. Waivered spots are sometimes available if there has not been enough interest for a team from within our boundary area.
In the Spring and Summer, our Skills Trainings are open to girls of all skill levels in the 2nd - 8th grade. In August, there are tryouts for the Fall/Winter competition teams.
The mission of the Newport Girls Select Basketball program is to provide a constructive and rewarding experience for future student-athletes of Newport High School through focusing on individual and team development. We believe that having fun and working hard are vital for young athletes to learn. In addition to basketball fundamentals, the girls will learn about mental toughness and teamwork. Ultimately, our hope is that each player walks away from the season with a love of the game and a desire to play more, having made new friendships and a connection to the Newport High School program.
